E-Mail Umstellung auf mail.istaria.de Email migration to mail.istaria.de

Unser Mailserver hat einen neuen, eigenen Namen bekommen: mail.istaria.de. Bisher war der Server unter istaria.de erreichbar. Der E-Mail-Verkehr läuft künftig über den neuen Namen. Das erhöht die Sicherheit Ihrer Verbindung.

Was das für Sie bedeutet: Sie müssen in Ihrem E-Mail-Programm einmalig zwei Einstellungen ändern. Das dauert etwa zwei Minuten.

Ihre E-Mail-Adresse und Ihr Passwort ändern sich nicht. Auch Ihre vorhandenen E-Mails, Ordner und Kontakte bleiben unverändert erhalten. Es geht ausschließlich um den Servernamen, den Ihr Programm zum Abrufen und Versenden benutzt.

Bitte zeitnah umstellen. Solange die alte Einstellung noch funktioniert, sehen Sie unter Umständen eine Zertifikatswarnung. Nach der Umstellung verschwindet diese Warnung. Wenn Sie nicht umstellen, wird Ihr Postfach zu einem späteren Zeitpunkt nicht mehr erreichbar sein.

Our mail server now has its own dedicated hostname: mail.istaria.de. Previously the server was reached at istaria.de. Email traffic now runs over the new name. This improves the security of your connection.

What this means for you: you need to change two settings in your email program, once. It takes about two minutes.

Your email address and password do not change. Your existing emails, folders and contacts are all preserved. This only affects the server name your program uses to send and receive.

Please change this soon. While the old setting still works you may see a certificate warning. After the change that warning disappears. If you do not change it, your mailbox will become unreachable at a later date.

Wichtig – häufigster Fehler: Die Authentifizierung muss auf „Passwort, normal“ stehen. Wenn dort „Verschlüsseltes Passwort“ oder „CRAM-MD5“ eingestellt ist, meldet Ihr Programm einen Anmeldefehler. „Passwort, normal“ ist trotz des Namens sicher: Das Passwort wird durch die SSL/TLS-Verschlüsselung geschützt übertragen.

Important – the most common mistake: authentication must be set to “Normal password”. If it is set to “Encrypted password” or “CRAM-MD5”, your program will report a login error. Despite the name, “normal password” is secure: the password is protected by the SSL/TLS encryption.

  3. Feld Server: istaria.de durch mail.istaria.de ersetzen.
  4. Port: 993 — Verbindungssicherheit: SSL/TLS — Authentifizierungsmethode: Passwort, normal.
  5. Ganz unten links auf Postausgang-Server (SMTP) klicken.
  6. Den Eintrag für Ihr Konto markieren → Bearbeiten.

  8. Mit OK bestätigen und Thunderbird neu starten.

On the first check you may be asked for your password once. It is the same as before.

Android – Gmail-AppAndroid – Gmail app

Die Gmail-App erlaubt es leider nicht, den Servernamen eines bestehenden Kontos nachträglich zu ändern. Das Konto muss einmal entfernt und neu angelegt werden.

Vorher prüfen: Wenn Ihr Konto als IMAP eingerichtet ist (Normalfall), liegen alle E-Mails auf dem Server und kommen nach dem Neuanlegen automatisch zurück. Bei POP3 könnten lokal gespeicherte Mails verloren gehen – melden Sie sich in dem Fall bitte vorher bei uns.

  1. Einstellungen → Konten (bzw. „Passwörter & Konten“) → Ihr Konto @istaria.de → Konto entfernen.
  2. Gmail-App öffnen → Profilbild oben rechts → Weiteres Konto hinzufügen.
  3. Sonstige auswählen (nicht Google!).
  4. E-Mail-Adresse eingeben → Manuelle Einrichtung → Persönlich (IMAP).
  5. Passwort eingeben.
  6. Posteingangsserver: mail.istaria.de, Port 993, Sicherheitstyp SSL/TLS.
  7. Postausgangsserver: mail.istaria.de, Port 587, Sicherheitstyp STARTTLS, „Anmeldung erforderlich“ aktiviert.
  8. Fertigstellen. Die Mails werden nun neu geladen – das kann bei großen Postfächern etwas dauern.

Unfortunately the Gmail app does not allow changing the server name of an existing account. The account has to be removed and added again.

Check first: if your account is set up as IMAP (the normal case), all mail lives on the server and will come back automatically. With POP3, locally stored mail could be lost — please contact us first in that case.

  1. Settings → Accounts (or “Passwords & accounts”) → your @istaria.de account → Remove account.
  2. Open Gmail → profile picture top right → Add another account.
  3. Choose Other (not Google!).
  4. Enter your email address → Manual setup → Personal (IMAP).
  5. Enter your password.
  6. Incoming server: mail.istaria.de, port 993, security type SSL/TLS.
  7. Outgoing server: mail.istaria.de, port 587, security type STARTTLS, “Require sign-in” enabled.
  8. Finish. Mail will now re-download — this can take a while for large mailboxes.
iPhone / iPad (iOS)

Der Posteingangsserver lässt sich direkt ändern, der Postausgangsserver liegt eine Ebene tiefer.

  1. Einstellungen → Apps → Mail → Mail-Accounts (bei älteren iOS-Versionen: Einstellungen → Mail → Accounts).
  2. Ihren @istaria.de-Account antippen → nochmals auf Account tippen.
  3. Unter Server für eintreffende E-Mails den Hostnamen auf mail.istaria.de ändern.
  4. Unter Server für ausgehende E-Mails auf SMTP tippen → den primären Server antippen.
  5. Hostname: mail.istaria.de, SSL verwenden: ein, Server-Port: 587, Authentifizierung: Passwort.
  6. Oben rechts auf Fertig bzw. Sichern tippen.

Falls iOS meldet, der Account könne nicht überprüft werden: einmal Sichern erzwingen und die App neu starten.

If iOS says the account cannot be verified, force Save once and restart the app.

  4. Weitere Einstellungen… → Reiter Erweitert: IMAP-Port 993 mit SSL/TLS, SMTP-Port 587 mit STARTTLS.
  5. Reiter Postausgangsserver: Häkchen bei „Der Postausgangsserver erfordert Authentifizierung“ setzen.
  6. OK → Weiter → Fertig stellen.

Neues Outlook / Outlook im Web: Hier lassen sich Serverdaten bestehender Konten oft nicht mehr bearbeiten. Entfernen Sie das Konto und legen Sie es als IMAP-Konto mit den oben genannten Daten neu an.

Classic Outlook (2016 / 2019 / 2021 / Microsoft 365):

  1. File → Account Settings → Account Settings…
  2. Select your account → Change.
  3. Set both Incoming mail server and Outgoing mail server to mail.istaria.de.
  4. More Settings… → Advanced tab: IMAP port 993 with SSL/TLS, SMTP port 587 with STARTTLS.
  5. Outgoing Server tab: tick “My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication”.
  6. OK → Next → Finish.

New Outlook / Outlook on the web: server details of existing accounts often cannot be edited any more. Remove the account and add it again as an IMAP account using the settings above.

Die Bezeichnungen unterscheiden sich, die Werte sind aber immer dieselben. Suchen Sie nach Konto, Server oder Erweiterte Einstellungen und tragen Sie ein:

  • Posteingang: mail.istaria.de, Port 993, SSL/TLS
  • Postausgang: mail.istaria.de, Port 587, STARTTLS
  • Benutzername: vollständige E-Mail-Adresse
  • Authentifizierung: normales Passwort (nicht „verschlüsselt“/CRAM-MD5)
  • SMTP-Authentifizierung: aktiviert

Statt „STARTTLS“ heißt es manchmal „TLS“, „TLS, falls verfügbar“ oder „Explizites TLS“ – das ist dasselbe.

The labels differ but the values are always the same. Look for Account, Server or Advanced settings and enter:

  • Incoming: mail.istaria.de, port 993, SSL/TLS
  • Outgoing: mail.istaria.de, port 587, STARTTLS
  • Username: full email address
  • Authentication: normal / plain password (not “encrypted”/CRAM-MD5)
  • SMTP authentication: enabled

Instead of “STARTTLS” you may see “TLS”, “TLS if available” or “Explicit TLS” — these mean the same thing.

Wenn etwas nicht funktioniertIf something does not work

„Authentifizierungsmethode wird nicht unterstützt““Authentication method is not supported”

Das ist der mit Abstand häufigste Fehler. Stellen Sie die Authentifizierungsmethode auf „Passwort, normal“ (englisch: normal password / plain). Eingestellt ist vermutlich „Verschlüsseltes Passwort“ bzw. CRAM-MD5 – das unterstützt unser Server nicht mehr.

By far the most common error. Set the authentication method to “Normal password” (plain). It is probably set to “Encrypted password” or CRAM-MD5, which our server no longer supports.

Zertifikatswarnung / „Verbindung ist nicht sicher“Certificate warning / “connection is not secure”

Diese Warnung erscheint, wenn noch der alte Servername istaria.de eingetragen ist. Unser Zertifikat lautet auf mail.istaria.de. Sobald Sie den Servernamen korrigiert haben, verschwindet die Warnung. Bitte klicken Sie solche Warnungen nicht dauerhaft weg, sondern korrigieren Sie die Einstellung.

This warning appears when the old server name istaria.de is still configured. Our certificate is issued for mail.istaria.de. Once you correct the server name the warning disappears. Please do not permanently dismiss such warnings — fix the setting instead.

Empfangen geht, Senden nichtReceiving works, sending does not

Dann wurde nur der Posteingang umgestellt. Der Postausgangsserver (SMTP) wird in fast allen Programmen getrennt konfiguriert – oft an einer ganz anderen Stelle im Menü. Prüfen Sie: mail.istaria.de, Port 587, STARTTLS, Authentifizierung aktiviert.

Then only the incoming side was changed. In almost every program the outgoing (SMTP) server is configured separately, often in a completely different part of the menu. Check: mail.istaria.de, port 587, STARTTLS, authentication enabled.

Passwort wird nicht akzeptiertPassword is not accepted

Ihr Passwort hat sich nicht geändert. Bitte prüfen Sie, ob als Benutzername die vollständige E-Mail-Adresse eingetragen ist (also name@istaria.de, nicht nur name). Manche Programme kürzen den Benutzernamen beim Ändern des Servers automatisch.

Your password has not changed. Please check that the username is your full email address (name@istaria.de, not just name). Some programs automatically shorten the username when the server is changed.

Zeitüberschreitung / keine VerbindungTimeout / no connection

Einige Mobilfunk- und Firmennetze blockieren den alten Versand-Port 25. Genau deshalb stellen wir auf Port 587 um. Bitte kontrollieren Sie, dass beim Postausgang wirklich 587 eingetragen ist.

Some mobile and corporate networks block the old sending port 25. That is exactly why we are moving to port 587. Please make sure the outgoing server really uses 587.

Nein. Ihre Adresse bleibt …@istaria.de. Es ändert sich nur der technische Servername im Programm. Absender und Empfänger merken nichts davon.
